CEA Architects | Residential expertise

Our approach to residential design is an opportunity to better integrate people and place — exploring how we live, where we live, and what our homes and neighbourhoods can become.

At CEA Architects, we believe that residential architecture is one of the most powerful tools we have to shape communities and improve lives. This may be achieved by combining living, working, and leisure to create dynamic mixed-use urban quarters; by responding carefully to context and climate through landscape-led design and garden living; or by exploring contemporary design through an informed reading of traditional vernacular forms for private homes. Each approach begins with the same question — how can this place better serve the people who live in it?

Working across a range of scales — from individual dwellings and private residences to large neighbourhoods and housing schemes — and in diverse locations across Ireland, New York, and beyond, residential design continues to provide rich opportunities for architectural research and innovation. It is an ongoing opportunity to rethink how we live, with a focus on creating homes and communities that are more sustainable, more resilient, and more deeply connected to their civic environment.

Our residential portfolio reflects this breadth — from passive house certified new builds and sensitive countryside extensions in rural Ireland, to the refurbishment of elegant period townhouses and apartments in Manhattan and Brooklyn. In every project, we bring the same commitment to craft, context, and the careful, considered design that transforms a house into a home.
